Ideas needed for using two 6 lb cans whole tomatoes

March 3rd, 2007 at 02:54 am

I have two 6 lb 3 oz cans of whole tomatoes and I need to do something with them. I'm thinking I might make one can into spaghetti sauce for the freezer. I'm not sure what to do with the other can. I don't have to do anything with it right now, I guess, but I'd like to do something productive that would get it out of the cupboard.

It *is* supposed to be cold again this weekend, the last cold one of the season, I imagine. Chili and minestrone both sound good. Thanks for the ideas. Smile

What about using some in lasagna, some in chicken or turkey caciatore, puree some for tomato soup or as a V8 type juice base, throw some in with TexMex chicken and rice, make pizza sauce and make some salsa. Tons of recipes on the web for all these things.

Thanks for the ideas, LuckyRobin. My two stepdaughters are here today so I think I'll recruit them to help me in the kitchen and dealing with those tomatoes is one of my goals for today. I'll post later letting yall know what I did with them. Smile

I'd be crockpotting a huge batch of wonderful spagetti sauce - and then freezing it in normal sized quantities? Dump in the crock pot with veggies and spices and YUMMY Smile
Did you buy the super big restaurant tins of tomatoes? I've done that in the past though not so much recently as I've found good deals of the 28oz ones on sale.

Thanks for the suggestion, Yummy! We didn't buy these; they were given to us some time ago and I want to do something productive and useful with them.

Are you the person who posted about carmelized onions????

Yup that was me! I have to make some of those again! They rock!

And given is so nice! Stuff you can make into great food is way better than a dust catcher (knicknack) as a gift!
