My bill envelope

October 7th, 2007 at 03:33 pm

I don't use a multiple envelope system where there's one envelope for each bill that's coming due but I use a single envelope system. It's a bank envelope and the amounts due are written in list form on one side of it. Once the entire amount for that bill is in the envelope, I check it off. I can easily look at the envelope and see how much is in it, how much I still need to get, etc. But it's a new system for me and this is my first month using it.

Right now there are no unchecked items and it's only October 7th! I just put in enough money to pay the storage and electric bills. The electric bill isn't due until the 24th but I'm going to pay it early this week.

Wow, it feels great to have all bills paid or the money for them set aside so early in the month.

The system I'm using seems to be working.

Go, Denise! Wink

I use the Dave Ramsey envelopes- I keep traqck better than swiping my debit card.

A lot of people use Dave's envelopes & for awhile I tried them but I do much better with one. I'm not sure why except that all money and amounts are on and in one envelope so I don't get as confused. Whatever works, right? Smile

I think it is cool that you found your own system and it works for you! The one envelope bill system sounds like a good idea, especially since you are keeping track of the bills on the outside. Makes sense to me. Wonder if you could do the same one envelope thing with gas and groceries...things that are not as fixed. Maybe keep on the outside an amount for each category? Keep us posted on how it goes....this just might be the ticket for others!

Nicely done. I always feel so great when the bills are paid. Even paying the bills has been a positive activity for me, I never dreaded it. But, then........I even like to iron! Smile

Jan, that's basically what I do with gas and grocery money. I keep it in another envelope in my wallet and keep track of what's spent on the outside of the envelope. It really seems to work for me because I always know just what I have and when it's gone, ooops, it's gone!

Contrary1, I like to iron, too. And.. dare I even say it.. I like to wash dishes by hand! Smile

Ha, moi aussie! For me, ironing is one of those mindless sort of tasks. I do it while watching television and the time passes quickly. I like to see the crisp folds and smooth material. And I feel like I accomplished something when I'm done. Smile

i use the envelope system a different envelope for every bill and groceries i have 13 envelopes going and when that bill comes in the money is always there i never touch the money put away its a great way for me to stay on track and any change i get goes into the money jar and when that gets to 20 dollars i change that at the bank for a note and then i put that into my emergency account which is a big fat piggy money box which is so cute he has a big smile on his face and as far as ironing goes yuck i try and drip dry all my clothes so i dont need to iron regard aussi carol

Carol, it sounds like your system works for you, too! Great!
Most of my clothes are hung on a line in my shower and dried that way
    but they still need ironing!
