Well, pooh! Where does one get coupons?

February 17th, 2008 at 04:41 pm

I got a local paper this morning and a Dallas paper. They both have a few Walgreen's coupons but that's it. Where in the world do you find coupons? I can't print a lot of the internet ones because right now I use a Mac that has OS 9 on it. I do have access to one that uses X but there are still a lot of sites that require Windows to print the coupons so ummm... what now?

Come on, you coupon gurus. 'fess up! Please! Smile

Edited to add:

Okay, I found them (missed them the first time apparently) but they're pitiful. There's one for coffee I might use and a Target coupon for Colgate toothpaste that I might use and the rest are for things we don't eat/use. Ugh, see this is why I haven't bothered with couponing for so long! I spent $2.50 to save maybe $1.75.

I got a Houston paper this morning and there wasn't much in the way of coupons. Usually there are many more. I believe there is some sort of cycle. I usually get quite a few in the paper at the beginning of the month.

We get two papers, and one had no coupons, today, and the other had "Smart Source" coupons, but none that I can use. Mostly convenience foods. Last week, there were a lot.

Our newspaper had 1 small SmartScource coupon booklet. There are certain holidays that there aren't any coupons and maybe like Preidents Day Monday less than normal.

I heard that there usually aren't good coupons in the papers when there are 3-day Holiday Weekends, and i guess that Presidents' Day is included. We did get a $10 off of $50 purchase at JCP and some additional Michael's coupons, but the other ones were skIMPy.

I pay $10 every two months to subscribe to this site: http://www.thegrocerygame.com/. Every Saturday they post the best deals with coupons that are available for the next 4 days or so. This morning we only had the SmartSource coupons as well, but all the stuff I got on sale either involved past coupons or stuff that was simply marked down. For instance, I got 12 cans of various beans for $5, so I stocked up on the ones I knew we would eat.

This was a bad coupon week. I subscribe to Refund Cents ($12 for a year). I know in advance what coupons will be in the paper so I know if I need to buy none, one, or multiples. I also know what coupons to use at which stores to maximize the sales. If you could see my stockpile of free or almost free items (no convenience foods either), you would probably find couponing a bit more worthwhile.

Well, it's good to know it isn't just me, that it's an off week. I had a trial membership to thegrocerygame but found groceryguide.com to be pretty helpful, too, and free.

I've head of refund cents but don't know much about it. As for how worthwhile I find couponing to be or not be, I don't have a solid opinion yet because I don't have a lot of luck finding coupons for things we use. If I can find the sources for coupons for items we use, I'm sure I'll find it worthwhile. But until that happens I remain unsure. I'm not anti-couponing though, and I want to be able to use them. I quit getting the Sunday paper for the same problem. There was nothing in there that I purchase. I don't have a dog or cat. I don't use the razors or shampoos that they had coupons for. I saved myself money by canceling the paper.

I was just wondering the exact same thing! I thought maybe it is because we don't get a big city paper...just Atlantic City Press which does have coupons but all for stuff that are "luxury" foods to us.

Does anyone know where I can get Suave coupons (besides eBay...where dot the eBay people get them)?

Our pickings were pitiful today too ...
But Denise, did you see the coupon for $7 off Nicorette gum? Might come in handy when you're off the patch.

Denise, you asked about Refund Cents in a reply on my blog. I do the online only. I tried the print version plus online for a while. The print is mainly just stories of other people's successes. While it is interesting, I can read the same stuff online. It made more money sense to me to go with the online version only.

scfr, I kept that coupon! Smile I doubt that I'll need it but I did keep it.

Frugalhousewife, I checked out their site and was going to subscribe then wasn't sure I wanted to. I had started the process for paying through PayPal but never finalized it. However, I got email today saying RC had been paid via PP! I emailed them to let them know I hadn't finalized the payment but it looks like I might be subscribed to the written and website whether I want it or not. Frown
