January 10 eats

January 10th, 2007 at 08:20 pm

DH put gumbo makins in the crock pot this morning. Now, I'm not a fan of file so gumbo isn't something I eat. He and the guys will have that tonight with rice and I'll more than likely have breakfast; scrambled eggs, turkey bacon, and a piece of wheat toast. That works for me, specially on a cold night. Smile

I have a lot of Cajun neighbors. One set used to make ettoufe (sp?) and rabbit and stuff for me for lunch. They had to tone down the spices though so I could eat it. Actually, around here, it's the guys who do a lot of the Cajun cooking. And boy, can they cook! I don't eat much of it, but I do like the cake--not the king cake, but the Cajun cake! And goodness, I can remember the first time I ate boudain. Just about did my taste buds in for a very long time! They do fried turkeys every year next door so I am going to get on the list for next year I think.

I lived down by New Orleans for 3 years and spent a lot of time in La Fourche Parish and some of the other very cajun areas. I got to eat there a few times, too. Ummm..interesting! lol

What kind of cake is cajun cake? Not sure I know what that is.
